Participation in an international youth exchange at the European Youth Education Center Magdeburg is free of charge. Accommodation in shared rooms and full board are included. Underage participants are supervised by their team leaders or pedagogical staff of the EJBM.
In this creative and hands-on youth exchange, participants from different European countries will explore the meaning and importance of children’s rights. Through interactive workshops, games, roleplays, and city excursions, the group will learn how children can influence politics and public life.
Highlights include a simulation game called “Sleepy Ville”, a visit to the state parliament (Landtag), and meetings with local politicians. Participants will design their vision of a “perfect city for children,” develop their own Children’s Rights Agenda, and present it to real decision-makers in Magdeburg.
Evening activities such as an escape game, intercultural evenings, and a silent disco help build friendships and cultural understanding.
This project empowers young people to raise their voices and take an active role in shaping their society — because every voice matters.

80 years after the end of World War II, young people from across Europe come together in Magdeburg to explore the question: What does peace mean today — and what is our responsibility for it?
During this exchange, participants will examine historical and current conflicts, their impact on communities, and how to build a peaceful future together. Activities include project work on “War and Peace in Magdeburg”, workshops, and a visit to the city center to connect theory with real-world history.
As part of the project, the group will also create an interactive Google Maps timeline, marking important locations in the city related to war and peace. These spots will be enriched with videos, photos, and personal reflections, turning Magdeburg into a living memory map through the eyes of young Europeans.
Through creative group work, games, and intercultural learning, young people will reflect on themes like peace, justice, memory, and solidarity. Evening activities — from film nights to a game evening and a silent disco — round out the experience.

Youth Exchanges at EJBMRead more: Kinderrechte in Europa: Frieden und Menschenrechte für alle

Join our next ESC Team at the European Youth Education Centre Magdeburg (EJBM) and help create a vibrant hub for European education! As part of a diverse international team, you help develop and test learning tools on Europe, human rights, and European values – and bring your own ideas into action.
During your ESC at the European Youth Education Centre Magdeburg (EJBM), you'll support our team in developing and improving educational materials on Europe, the European Union, human rights, and European values. Together, we’ll explore and test interactive methods such as learning games, workshops, simulations, and creative tools to make Europe more accessible and engaging for young people. A key part of your mission will be to try out the materials in practice with youth groups and help us reflect and refine them based on real feedback.
Your own experiences, ideas, and creativity are highly valued – they are an essential contribution to shaping our educational work.
Volunteers will be accommodated in shared rooms with generally four people (towels and sheets are provided) at the European Youth Educational Centre Magdeburg. Since our facilities can also be booked by outside groups, the living arrangements can be subject to change due to bookings by outside groups. The volunteers will be provided with food to prepare meals with the group (unless meals are provided by the organisation) as well as 7€ pocket money per day.
Week 1 | Team-building, intro to EJBM & ESC, first look at Europe-related materials |
Week 2 | Cataloguing existing materials, identifying gaps, preparing first tests |
Week 3 | Testing and improving methods with youth groups, adding your own ideas |
Week 4 | Final presentations, evaluation, reflection & farewell |
